This is my new favorite paring knife. I lived in Germany a while back and brought home a handful of kitchen knives from various manufacturers. Until now, a couple of those German knives were among my favorite kitchen tools. However, last week I sliced up some mangoes, bananas, and limes with this little Shun paring knife, and I have already given away some of my old German knives. This Shun knife cuts quickly and cleanly, and the rounded handle was very comfortable to hold in comparison to the rectangular handle on some other knives.

I've owned these set of knives for approx. 2 months . After reading some negative reviews I was somewhat apprehensive about the product , but for the price I decided to give them a try . I am very impressed with this set. They are well built, sturdy , and very sharp. I have run them in the dishwasher several times and have yet to see any problems . The only problem is that they want to discolor if food is not rinsed off prior to going in the dishwasher ,however, the stain can be removed easily . If I had owned this set for 6 months before reviewing it and still didn't have probs. I would definetly give 5 stars .

Great knives for the price of popular Henckels brand. Made with German steel and fabricated in China. I was surprised for the low price for this pair until I received them which is thinner than what I expected. I love this design where the blades have hollow spots which create air gaps, this make it easier to slice solid foods like cheese and hams. They do not stick as much as straight smooth steel blades. The 3-rivet hilt feels solid, smooth, and nicely detailed. Sharp.

I would give this knife a five but I didn't use the knife much at first. The blade is loose. I can still use it but I not happy about it. I didn't know there was a window to when I could return. The three rating is more toward the policy and customer service. I will give the company the benefit of the doubt assuming this was an isolated incident. I am sure I will have to replace it and will probably go with another brand.

I got the cheaper knife set which did not include the bread knife, so I needed this one to complete the set. As with the rest of my Henckels knives, it's well balanced and very comfortable to use. I don't have any trouble cutting through the most dense of breads, the blade doesn't flex in the slightest, but it can also be used to cut tomatoes with precision.

I had a much different experience with my knife the previous person. I found it incredibly easy to use, and it drastically reduced the amount of time and effort involved in cutting a melon. It works both as a means to slice through whole melon (rind intact) and also to cut the rind off first and then slice up the melon (depending on your preference). I wish I had foun this years ago!

I purchased this set from another vendor and I am thrilled with it. The blades are set into the plastic in such a way to prevent cutting yourself but they are sharp. I make my own bread and tested the bread knife and wow what a difference. No raggedy edges, smooth cutting. Each color is for a different function i.e. red - bread knife; yellow - utility knife; green - santoku knife. Each blade is covered with a matching blade guard. This was important to me as I am on blood thinners and I would prefer not to cut myself when using a knife. Blades are stainless steel and the color coding reduces the risk of cross-contamination during food preparation. Hand wash and you are good to go.



UPDATE: I was asked if these knives can be sharpened and they can. I have used mine for several months now and not one cut which has been a blessing during this holiday season.

This is from someone who loves cooking and cooking tools. I bought this knife after reading lots and lots of reviews of similar items. It is such a good value and a handy addition to any kitchen. I dice or chop with its thin and very sharp blade then scoop up the food using the broad blade as I would a bench scraper. I don't use it as a cleaver; I have a heavier knife with a coarser blade that does the rough service stuff. I haven't seen the Chinese Chef Knife in the stores I shop that carry Dexter knives so I am happy that it is available through Amazon.

Although the product description clearly states that there is a built in peeler (in addition to the knife and corer aspects), the model provided must be an older version that does NOT include the peeler in the handle. I was very disappointed as the appeal of this product was the fact that this was a multi-use tool and one of the most important aspects of use was not there! I knew it was missing because I have a colleague who brings this tool with her lunch and I had seen it in use. I purchased two and returned two.

The knives came individually wrapped in both cardboard and plastic - eliminating them from hitting up against each other in the box and dulling. That was nice. I have somewhat limited countertop space so the fact that the block swivels is very convenient. When not using the knives, I can swivel the block so it takes up less forward space. The knives and scissors are quite sharp. I've washed them many times from using them and have seen no rust as others reported. However, as with all my sharp knives, I do handwash them to avoid the rigors inside a dishwasher. I'd definitely recommend these knives if you're looking for quality knives and care to take the time to hand wash. I don't know that the dishwasher would harm them, but it's just good practice to handwash your sharps.
