The knives came individually wrapped in both cardboard and plastic - eliminating them from hitting up against each other in the box and dulling. That was nice. I have somewhat limited countertop space so the fact that the block swivels is very convenient. When not using the knives, I can swivel the block so it takes up less forward space. The knives and scissors are quite sharp. I've washed them many times from using them and have seen no rust as others reported. However, as with all my sharp knives, I do handwash them to avoid the rigors inside a dishwasher. I'd definitely recommend these knives if you're looking for quality knives and care to take the time to hand wash. I don't know that the dishwasher would harm them, but it's just good practice to handwash your sharps.
